The process for creating a custom wedding dress is exactly as a bride might imagine. It all starts with the initial design consultation in Livingston, NJ where designer Scott Kisler sits with a- bride- to be and listens as she explains her vision of "the perfect dress." Usually, a bride has done her homework and brings with her photos of the dress she envisions for herself. There are so many elements involved in even the simplest dress, including the type of lace, if any, the kind of fabric that creates the silhouette desired, the under construction of the bodice and even the inclusion of a veil and how it relates to the dress as a whole. Once all the details have been finalized, Scott creates a definitive sketch and fittings are scheduled.
Over the years, Alex/Scott Couture have created wedding dresses for a range of brides.
We have worked with first time brides, second marriages and, more recently, same sex weddings. Generally, a first time bride is much more centered on the entire event as a whole and how her dress pertains to that dynamic. Details are crucial.
When we have worked with a repeat bride, obviously she is mature and often opts for a much simpler, paired down dress. This is usually a difficult dress to find at retail and our ability to custom design makes for a perfect match.
The dynamic of a same sex bridal ceremony is - one event, two dresses! Designing two gowns really highlights Scott's ability to capture each bride's unique personality. We often use the same fabric in the same color for two completely different, yet complementary dresses. An alternative to the idea of two dresses could be a strapless, lace topped gown and a tuxedo type suit made in the same color and cloth with a crisp, man-tailored lace shirt underneath.
Custom plus size bridal is also a service we provide. Our knowledge and ability to design for a plus size bride guarantees an elegant dress.
